A beautiful cello with a soaring, powerful and resonant tone, perfectly balanced for a wide variety of repertoire. The back is of two pieces of quarter sawn maple of medium width flaming. The top is of clear, medium grained spruce. The varnish is amber-orange over a golden ground.

Harold M. Hayslett, one of America’s most honored violinmakers, was born in West Virginia in 1917. After serving in France during World War II, he became a pipefitter, and started making violins shortly thereafter as a hobby. His reputation grew quickly, leading him to open his workshop in 1954. Over the years he won many maker’s competitions, including a gold medal from the Violin Society of America. Known best for his fine cellos, he was the subject of 1996 feature documentary, Building a Cello with Harold. Hayslett is listed in the guide, The Violin Makers of the United States. Hayslett died in 2018 at the age of 100.
